Halloween Costume Round-Up

A Collection of My Halloween Costumes Over the Years

love Halloween. It’s my favorite Holiday. The weather is perfect, it’s spooky, AND I get to be in costumes?!? What more could a theatre kid want. This inner theatre kid has pushed me to find the most fun, unique, and clever costumes over the years. Plus, my passion for sustainability has pushed me to create costumes either out of my own clothes or out of thrifted clothes (I’ve developed quite the collection of costume pieces over the years). Scroll through for some spooky inspiration!

2018

Ngl, I stole the inspiration for this one from one of my students. I actually through this together last minute from one of my mom's old ballgowns (I assume it would take longer if you didn't have such an extra mother), costruction paper, and taco bell sauce packets (I have a taco bell problem). Voila instant pun based costume.

My friend also dressed up with a food pun, using her old wig from her previous "Eleven" costume and a strawberry costume she got from a friend. She actually gave the strawberry part to my blonde friend who's going to reuse the idea this year. All about regifting costume items!

S/O to the "Strawberry Blonde"

My teacher friends and I went as Bed, Bath, and Beyond! This is literally just my bathrobe and a towel (and pjs under, great excuse to be comfy at school!). My friends outfits were also taken from their wardrobes. We also used coupons that "Beyond" always gets in the mail. Upcycling spam!

Betty and Veronica

This is an honorable mention as it wasn’t for Halloween, my friend and I just dressed up for fun (I’m a theatre kid, she’s a Leo, we’re extra). Also the shirts were not thrifted, but bought from bettyandveronica.com I also reused the skirt for a clueless costume, which I did not get a picture of (unfortunately).

Roy Lichtenstein Painting

I wore this for my first Halloween as a teacher. The dress is from a Buffalo Exchange back in New Orleans. The make-up obviously makes this costume, but it was surprisingly easy. If I managed to do it before 8 am, anyone can do it.

2016

Another makeup heavy look. I used a veil that I used as a costume in my voice recital and my old graduation dress. The rest was makeup!

So this was a college Halloween costume, and another makeup heavy one. I had this dress for years (this was before I started thrifting frequently though). But you could probably do this look with any black dress! Recognize the headband from Bed, Bath, and Beyond?
